Why do we need software users?
Posted on: September 17th, 2010Users. As IT professionals we joke about the need to not have them. We want our cool technical solutions run free, without the chains of oppression that a user ties them too. You know, like all the screens have to work not just the technically challenging screens. That all the objects behave correctly, not just the ones with lots of cool business rules. That all the reports display mundane data, not just the one cool graph that you got to display after using your technical magic and trickery.
Unfortunately, it is actually is all about the user, so the next time we look at wide sweeping changes to systems, we need to think about the impact that it will have on our users. They are more then just a nest of angry angry bees (well they can be that too) they are why we are doing our profession.
Oh and why the title? Well just do a search on Google for it..
